The Cojímar Tower

part of the colonial fortress of Havana

Cojímar, just 10 minutes east of the Cuban capital, was in the early twentieth century a thriving seaside resort for the wealthier classes.

It is also said that Fidel Castro liked to go fishing here with the writer Ernest Hemingway.

Hotel Campoamor

1907

The Hotel Campoamor was built in 1907 by Doña Pilar Samonao

At the time, the upper class celebrated many weddings in this hotel, located on a hill overlooking the sea. It was a very ostentatious hotel, not only in Havana, but in all of Cuba, with a sumptuous restaurant, a ballroom, a select roof garden and an elegant casino.

These friends took advantage of the noble place to go fishing. In its surroundings there are the beaches El Cachón and Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, one of white sands and the other rocky, but equally attractive.

Unfortunately, its hotel mission was limited. Only nine years after its inauguration, it was acquired by the Cuban state.  In 1916, it became the "José Martí" Anti-tuberculosis Preventive Medical and Educational Center.

Today it is in a state of great deterioration but it is still feasible to renovate.

we can imagine the splendor of this Hotel in its best days.

The promoters of the project, among others the Swiss entrepreneur Reto Rüfenacht and the trade chamber SwissCuban Cham consulted us for a conception of this great intervention.

In spite of several meetings with the respective Cuban ministries, it remained in draft form.

It was not possible to reach a viable agreement.

The "belle-epoque" style with some modern elements

It would have been a daunting but fascinating task to revive this hotel in its early twentieth century style, combined with the modern amenities of a five star hotel.

The renovated hotel would feature 41 suites

It takes vision and perseverance to carry out projects in Cuba. Our team has these qualities.

However, we must admit that the current situation in Cuba does not allow us to develop a project like this - for now.

But we remain optimistic for the future.
