Hershey - a chocolate

and also a model town

The American manufacturer made a model village for its employees in the sugar factory - Hershey-Town - today Camilo Cienfuegos city.

Hershey Town CUBA

the sugar mill facilities - huge industrial buildings now unused

Following the model of industrial buildings in Europe that no longer serve their original use, but have been transformed into concert halls and event venues, restaurants, amusement parks and much more - a group of investors wanted to review this unique case in Cuba.

the "Hershey" train

In addition to the many unused buildings in the city, Hershey has trains of its own.

The project developer was able to arrange for groups of tourists to experience this unique experience: a ride on Hershey's historic electric trains directly from Havana Bay.

a postcard from the 1930's

with the aerial view of Hershey City

The lady in the photo is Amparo de Jongh, she was 86 years old when she was telling us the stories of this unique place in Cuba. There were countless sugar mills but only in this case was a town made with everything that a city has:

From simple buildings for the workers to single-family villas for the engineers, schools, medical office, stores, theater, golf club, hotel and more....

The former hotel in Hershey

The old hotel is now just an empty shell. Its facades are still intact.

It is said that an Italian began to make a pasta factory - apparently the project was not completed and does not combine so much in the hotel.

an open-air museum

Apart from the houses to be studied in this ensemble - there also remained a large number of devices and installations from the times almost a hundred years ago. From a steam roller to a machine that makes huge ice cubes.

Doña Amparo has collected many documents of the time and of the employer Mr. Milton Hershey who, it seems, was very well liked by the inhabitants who were all his employees.

dismantling of mills - steel is sold mainly to China

Each year there is less and less of what used to be the sugarcane mill with its enormous sugarcane processing facilities. There was even a factory that uses the sugarcane husk to make a kind of cardboard for cabinetmaking.

we have presented several concepts for tourism use of vacant buildings

The client was involved for several years in the use of the historic train. But other parts of the project have not yet been realized.

We hope that Hershey, now Camilo Cienfuegos, will once again become a prosperous town - its friendly people deserve it.

THE WAY A MAN TAKES IN HAND THE REINS OF HIS DESTINY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DESTINY ITSELF.
